With CAFOD Club, our pupils can lead the way, putting their faith into action and support the Catholic life of the school. It gives our children the chance to get together on a weekly basis to learn about the wider world, through games and mini projects and to take part in activities to reach people who urgently need our help.
Right now children are going hungry because crops have failed. Families don't have clean, safe water to drink. Children are missing school because they are sick because they have no vaccines. Through CAFOD Club our children have the chance to change this, so that every person in our world will have the chance to flourish.
Children in Key Stage 2 can attend CAFOD Club each week.
CAFOD Club takes place every Tuesday at 12pm in the Orange Room.
CAFOD Club would like to explore the following ideas, through our work on Catholic Social Teaching:
CAFOD Club meets on a Monday after school.
CAFOD Club learnt about the World Bank and how they were trying to take seeds away from farmers and prevent them from sharing them with their neighbours to support them in growing healthy and sustainable crops. They signed the petition to support farmers around the world and also sold homemade bracelets at the Summer Fete to raise money for CAFOD. They raised £72 and were able to buy 6 Weatherproof Crops from CAFOD World Gifts. This links to the Catholic Social Teachings of Common Good, Stewardship, Option for the Poor, Solidarity and Distributive Justice.
CAFOD Club have been thinking about the Pope's messages from Laudato Si about the need for us to take care of 'Our Common Home' and be Stewards of the world for the sake of each other. They decided to start in St Joseph's and asked for rubbish pickers so that they could go around the school grounds and collect any rubbish that have come under or over the school fence. This links to the Catholic Social Teachings of Common Good, Participation and Stewardship.
CAFOD Club have been learning and talking about our divided world - Rich North and Poor South. They took part in a learning session where they were divided into the different continents of the world and then the world's resources were distributed. They quickly realised that the world's resources are not being distributed fairly and that the largest populations have the fewest resources! They decided that they needed to help make a change and they are going to start by sharing what they have learnt with their friends and families. This links to the Catholic Social Teachings of Common Good, Stewardship, Option for the Poor, Solidarity and Distributive Justice.
